TALLAHASSEE, FL- Tobacco Free Florida announces the launch of a new website, QuitTeam.com, as a powerful resource for those trying to overcome their tobacco addiction. QuitTeam provides smokers with a support system that utilizes popular social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

QuitTeam users can choose from three options – Facebook, Twitter or e-mail – to track their progress in working to overcome their addiction. Users are encouraged to log their progress, both successes and challenges, in a journal for their friends and family to read. The selected friends and family can then post their words of encouragement and support.

TALLAHASSEE - Governor Charlie Crist has proclaimed March 21 through March 28 as Tobacco Free Florida Week to promote the Florida Quitline and local cessation services while raising awareness of the impact of secondhand smoke among at-risk populations. During the week, Floridians will be encouraged to recommend friends and loved ones to contact the Florida Quitline for help in overcoming their addition.

TALLAHASSEE, FL- For years, Floridians have repeatedly made New Year resolutions
to quit smoking. This New Year, The Florida Department of Health and Tobacco Free Florida encourage Floridians to commit to their resolution by making a positive lifestyle change and overcoming their addiction.

In 2009, Tobacco Free Florida had smokers participate in the campaign by facing their addiction and becoming a “Quit Journaler”. One participant, Matt Keller, resolved to quit for the first time after smoking for eight years. By keeping a video journal, he documented his daily struggles with cravings and dependence on nicotine and was provided with the strength he needed to succeed....

Tobacco Free Florida is proud to announce Universal Latin Recording Artist, Ricky C, as the campaign’s newest “Free Thinker.” In support of the campaign, Ricky C filmed his Free Thinker segment in which he explains his decision to be tobacco free and personal experiences that have influenced him to act as an advocate for making Florida truly tobacco free.

TALLAHASSEE, FL- Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) kicks off the new school year with a fresh start by unveiling a new logo and introducing new members for the Youth Advisory Board.

The mission of Florida’s SWAT is to mobilize, educate and equip Florida youth to revolt against and de-glamorize Big Tobacco. They are a united movement of empowered youth working towards a tobacco free future. Through their efforts they will shape tobacco-free norms, making tobacco less desirable, less acceptable and less accessible.
