TOBACCOFREE/SWAT RECEIVES A FRESH LOOK

TALLAHASSEE, FL- Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) kicks off the new school year with a fresh start by unveiling a new logo and introducing new members for the Youth Advisory Board.

The mission of Florida’s SWAT is to mobilize, educate and equip Florida youth to revolt against and de-glamorize Big Tobacco. They are a united movement of empowered youth working towards a tobacco free future. Through their efforts they will shape tobacco-free norms, making tobacco less desirable, less acceptable and less accessible.

Kahreem Golden, Chair of the Youth Advisory Board says, "Few words can completely describe the excitement I feel about the upcoming year. With the launch of the new logo and website as well as inducting new board members, SWAT is well on its way to being in the spotlight of tobacco prevention again."

The Youth Advocacy Board works in collaboration with the Florida Department of Health – Tobacco Prevention Program to determine the direction and scope of both the SWAT organization and the youth tobacco prevention component.

Recently SWAT elected new Youth Advocacy Board members. The members for the new term are: Jessica Black of Santa Rosa County, Lauren Coffman of Bay County, LaQuinesha Williams of Jackson County, Ansley Pentz of Levy County, Kahreem Golden of Putnam County, Cameo Lance of Columbia County, Lucas Thompson of Manatee County, Mickey Luckens of Highlands County, Kris-An Hinds of Sarasota County, Victoria Faconti of St. Lucie County, Kimberly Mullin of Okeechobee County and Patricia Ainsworth of Glades County.

Members of the SWAT Youth Advocacy Board will serve a term through June 30, 2010.

The new bright green logo features 4 youth, each holding up a letter for the acronym, SWAT. Students Working Against Tobacco is spelled out across the bottom. This new eye catching logo will also help launch the new SWAT website later this year.
