TOBACCOFREE/Tobacco Free Florida Announces New Website For Quitters
TALLAHASSEE, FL- Tobacco Free Florida announces the launch of a new website, QuitTeam.com, as a powerful resource for those trying to overcome their tobacco addiction. QuitTeam provides smokers with a support system that utilizes popular social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
QuitTeam users can choose from three options – Facebook, Twitter or e-mail – to track their progress in working to overcome their addiction. Users are encouraged to log their progress, both successes and challenges, in a journal for their friends and family to read. The selected friends and family can then post their words of encouragement and support.
“Designing QuitTeam to be a social networking site where smokers can receive motivation and support, provides them the accountability needed to break their tobacco addiction,” said Kim Berfield, Deputy Secretary of the Florida Department of Health.“It has been said that sharing progress with an audience via Twitter, Facebook or blogs, provides incentive to continue with a new lifestyle change.”
According to the American Cancer Society, support from friends and family greatly increases a user’s chances of quitting. The Florida Quitline is also here to help and offers free nicotine replacement therapies and counseling to state residents. For more information on the Quitline, please call 1.877.U.CAN.NOW.
